Why join? Each week, Salt + Sea members receive fresh, locally caught, sustainable seafood. Your membership with Salt + Sea is a convenient way to make the most of the Gulf of Maine’s rich, local food source. By becoming a member, you are participating in the responsible management of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem. You will be buying seafood caught by local harvesters who use responsible practices and who target sustainable stocks. Over 90% of the fish Americans consume today is imported. By joining Salt + Sea, you are investing directly into your local economy. How does a share work? Each week members pick up their pre-paid shares. Members can choose to sign up for 2 months at a time, and can renew their membership at any point. What is in a share? Our fish shares vary from week to week and consist mainly of fillets of Acadian Redfish, Haddock, Monkfish, Pollock, Flounder and Hake. The contents of each week’s share vary depending on what the boats bring in. Our Single Share consists of at least 1lb of fresh fillets weekly, and our Double Share consists of at least 2lbs of fresh fillets weekly. Both shares include occasional Gulf of Maine products like dried seaweed snacks and homemade fish cakes. We also work with local shellfish harvesters, and offer Gulf of Maine oysters, clams, mussels and scallops. Depending on season, our Shellfish Shares include either a dozen oysters, or a bag of mussels, clams or scallops. When can I start? We run year-round, and our members can start receiving shares at any time. What happens if I can’t come pick up my share? If you can't pick up your share on a given week, you have two options: You can have a friend come pick it up instead.OR You can place your account on hold. Unclaimed shares are donated to the Wayside Food Program.
